State Rep. Wants To Be Next Auditor General

State Rep. Frank Mautino is still an Illinois House member, but he has resigned from one job so he can apply for another. He left the Legislative Audit Commission last week. The Spring Valley Democrat intends to apply for the $152,000 per year auditor general job next month.

Mautino says after 18 years on the Legislative Audit Commission, including 12 as the chairman, he knows what the Auditor General does and he knows that he can do it. But he’s not necessarily a shoo-in.

Mautino says there’s a nationwide search, and for now, he intends to circulate petitions to run for reelection to the Illinois House this fall.

He says he’s still interested in being the Illinois House Speaker someday.

Mautino has been on the Legislative Audit Commission for 18 years, including 12 in which he was the chairman. The Spring Valley Democrat says he expects to be one of many candidates for the job.

In case he doesn’t get it, he still intends to circulate petitions to run for reelection to the Illinois House and continue working toward being the Illinois House Speaker.
