Ohio State's Miller Wants To Switch Positions

Ohio State's Braxton Miller could move from quarterback to wide receiver for the 2015 season.

width=Miller was a two-time Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year as the Buckeyes' signal caller before missing the entire 2014 season with a right shoulder injury. Ohio State went on to win the national championship behind quarterback Cardale Jones, who took over for the Big Ten Championship Game and played the two College Football Playoff games after J.T. Barrett was hurt late in the season.

When all three decided to return for 2015, head coach Urban Meyer gave no indication as to which of the trio would emerge as the starter.

Miller told SI.com on Thursday he was switching positions to wide receiver, but Meyer was quoted by the Columbus Dispatch as saying that the idea has been discussed and that no definitive decision has yet been made.

Miller was considered a Heisman Trophy candidate heading into the 2014 season after leading Ohio State to a 24-0 regular-season mark in 2012 and 2013. He racked up 2,094 yards and 24 touchdowns passing and 1,068 yards and 12 scores rushing in 2013.

After injuring his shoulder last August, Barrett was named the starter and led Ohio State to an 11-1 regular-season mark. He suffered a broken ankle in the regular-season finale against Michigan, leaving Jones as the starter.

Jones led the Buckeyes to a 59-0 win over Wisconsin for the Big Ten crown in his first start, then helped Ohio State beat Alabama in the Sugar Bowl and Oregon in the National Championship Game.

Should Miller make the transition to receiver, Barrett and Jones would likely vie for the starter's role.
