Illinois House Votes to Block Automatic Pay Raise; Measure Goes to Senate

Well, there might not be a new state budget, but lawmakers Tuesday afternoon did agree on one thing: rescending the automatic pay increases of Illinois state legislators.

The Illinois House voted 101 to one, to block the pay raise. The bill now goes to the Illinois Senate, which won't be in session again until August 4th.

Governor Bruce Rauner lauded the House vote, saying that he appreciated Tuesday's action in the House and thanked the members who he said showed leadership on the issue.

Rauner added that he encourages Illinois Senate President John Cullerton to swiftly move the legislation to the governor’s desk for his signature.
