Illini basketball officials say graduate transfer Khalid Lewis has signed with the team.

Illinois head coach John Groce (grohs) made the announcement Friday, saying the 6-3 point guard from LaSalle in Philadelphia has signed a financial aid tender with the University of Illinois.

Groce says the Illini are "very fortunate" to have Lewis. The coach says Lewis will contribute his ability to "play point, handle the ball, score, make plays for others and defend."

>>Illinois' Paul Suspended After Arrest in France

Illinois forward Darius Paul has been suspended following his arrest during a team trip to France.

Coach John Groce (grohs) said Saturday Paul is suspended "indefinitely" for violating team rules. Groce said Paul was being sent home and his status with the team will be evaluated after the Illini return to Champaign next week.

Reports indicate the 6-foot-8 junior was arrested just before 5 a.m. Friday in Deauville, France after police received multiple reports that Paul was damaging vehicles and breaking windows.

Deauville police superintendent Madam Pons said Paul was "very, very drunk." He was charged with vandalism, public intoxication and resisting arrest.

Paul also was suspended in 2014 for what Groce called "multiple transgressions." He later pleaded guilty to underage drinking.
