Ohio State, Michigan Football Notes; Golson Named FSU QB

 width=>>Urban Meyer Announces Both Barrett, Jones To Get Time At QB

Ohio State coach Urban Meyer has stuck to his word with the Buckeyes' quarterback situation, reiterating his plans to announce the team's starter when it's time for the first snap against Virginia Tech in Blacksburg next Monday night.

Meyer met with reporters on Monday to discuss the preparations for Virginia Tech. When questioned about the staff's preparation tactics with two quarterbacks, Meyer deflected the question with comments about the similarities between J.T. Barrett and Cardale Jones' skill sets and a suggestion that both quarterbacks will see the field.

Meyer later said the message to both quarterbacks will be to "get ready because I'd like to see both guys involved."

A few weeks ago, both Barrett and Jones told reporters they'd prefer one player be the designated starter at the end of the competition. Barrett, who had to rotate series-by-series in high school, said a rotation be ideal because the two "wouldn't have the same rhythm or efficiency." Jones doesn't think it would "be a great idea," but will be willing to adjust if Meyer wants to use both quarterbacks.

 width=>>Michigan Appears Undecided At QB

Michigan released on Monday its depth chart for Thursday night's opener against Utah, and the one thing made crystal clear from it is that Jim Harbaugh's going to continue playing things close to the vest. Harbaugh didn't exactly provide complete answers to every question as to who will be starting against the Utes.

The starting quarterback? That will be Shane Morris OR Jake Rudock. We still don't know which one.

The starting wide receivers? The Wolverines will start Amara Darboh OR Drake Harris on one side with Jehu Chesson OR Grant Perry on the other.

The starting defensive tackle? Well, either Chris Wormley OR Matt Godin will be out there on the first defensive series.

The biggest official news from this release is that junior De'Veon Smith has won the the Wolverines' starting tailback job and will have Derrick Green OR Ty Isaac behind him as the No. 2. On defense, 10 positions are set, with the exception of defensive tackle.

As for quarterback and the rest, we'll have to wait until the Wolverines take the field in Salt Lake City on Thursday night to find out who Harbaugh has decided on.

Florida State has made it official and announced Notre Dame transfer quarterback Everett Golson as the starter for Week 1. Golson will make his Florida State debut in Tallahassee against Texas State on Saturday night.

Golson, who transferred to the Seminoles in May, beat out junior Sean Maguire for the starting job in camp. Maguire had one start in 2014 for the Seminoles, a close win over Clemson when he threw for 304 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.

In 2014 with the Fighting Irish, Golson completed 60 percent of his passes for 3,445 yards and 29 touchdowns, but he had problems with ball security throwing 14 interceptions and fumbling the ball 12 times, losing eight of them.
