Tour DeWitt A Smashing Success

When Steve and Dana Lobb started planning to bring back the "Tour DeWitt" bike ride, they curbed their expectations.

After all, the ride hadn't gone on in DeWitt County in several years, so they weren't sure how popular it would actually be. Despite a crummy morning and no real break in the weather, Steve Lobb indicates the turnout was beyond what they could have expected.

Lobb attributes the exceptional turnout to a couple of things. He says it is not uncommon for bikers to decide the day of an event if they are going to ride and he also feels the benefit for the Child Protection Network played into it as well.

Almost half the riders chose to take on the longest route that stretched from Clinton to Farmer City and back and Lobb felt it had a lot to do with the great scenery DeWitt County has to offer.

Thanks to the great participation and some outside donors, Lobb and his crew will be able to present the Child Protection Network with approximately $5-thousand. He says his goal was about half of that.

Lobb says he is already looking forward to next year's event and is making adjustments.

He thanks all the volunteers that gave many hours of their time to help make the reintroduction of Tour DeWitt a success and thanked the many civic groups that stepped up in their various capacities and also thanks everyone that participated to make it the biggest Tour DeWitt on record.
