DeWitt County Group Offering Low Income Residents Jobs Skills Training

DeWitt County's Community Action is offering low-income residents an opportunity to better their skills in order to be employed.

Community Action's "Jobs For Life" offers a unique solution to poverty and joblessness by equipping participants with skills to meet the pressing employment needs of local businesses.

The eight week course will cover a variety of topics including conflict resolution, effective communication skills, and how to develop a resume.

Alison Rumler-Gomez, Executive Director of Community Action, says one of the unique qualities of Jobs for Life is that it relies on a network of volunteers to commit to mentoring the students and forming relationships.

The volunteers participate in the classes along with the students and provide knowledge and support along the way.

Anita Russell, Coordinator for the Hand Up Project through Community Action, will be teaching the classes in Clinton. She feels it is a great opportunity for those unemployed or underemployed to quote-"become fully self-sufficient".

To participate in the Jobs for Life Program as either a student or a volunteer, please contact the DeWitt County Community Action office at 217-935-2455.

Community Action is also looking for local businesses to come and speak to the class about what they are looking for in an ideal employee.
