Ageless Apple and Pork Festival Thriving Into 2015

One of the biggest festivals in central Illinois is just a few weeks away and organizers are chomping at the bit for the big weekend to arrive.

September 26-27 is Clinton's annual Apple and Pork Festival. Entering it's 48th year, the annual festival brings out "old fashioned" ideas in an age of boundless technology and a non-stop society. Joey Woolridge, with the Festival's benefactor, the CH Moore Homestead, believes it's the touches of tradition that make the festival unique.

The historic CH Moore Mansion continues to be a big draw for Apple and Pork goers through the years. Woolridge indicates at last year's festival, exactly 1,000 people made their way through the Mansion.

One area of the festival has seen a slight decline in the last several years, and that is the flea market. According to Larry Buss, organizer of the Apple and Pork Festival, the flea market has seen a decline in the number of vendors because of a couple of factors, but he believes most of it is due to the increase in online shopping.

What most attendees come to the Apple and Pork Festival for is the food. According to Buss and Woolridge, DeWitt County non-profits all operate the booths on the Homestead grounds and a small portion of their funds raised come back to the Homestead, then the rest stay with the non-profit groups.

Again, this year's festival is the final weekend of September. September 26-27 are the dates.
