Cowboys Trade For QB Matt Cassel

width=The Cowboys, who could be without Tony Romo for two months, have traded for Matt Cassel, reports CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason La Canfora. Cassel was traded from the Vikings to the Bills in the offseason and has been Tyrod Taylor's backup through the first two weeks of the season. He will reprise that role behind Brandon Weeden in Dallas.

The news comes two days after Romo fractured his left clavicle against the Eagles.

The expectation is that Weeden will remain the starter -- the Cowboys had just two quarterbacks on the active roster to start the season -- and Cassel will now serve as his backup.

Cassel joins his fifth team after previous stops in New England, Kansas City, Minnesota and Buffalo. He has started 72 games in 11 seasons and has thrown 96 touchdowns against 70 interceptions. But Cassel has also struggled with consistency and accuracy during his career, completing just 59 percent of his passes and sporting a quarterback rating of 80.1.
