Authorities Preparing For Weekend's 80-Thousand Guests

The Apple and Pork Festival annually brings in tens-of-thousands of visitors to the community of Clinton.

That many guests in a town of 75-hundred can create it's own set of challenges. According to Clinton Police Chief Ben Lowers, this coming weekend can be a somewhat demanding weekend for his department and the other first responding agencies in Clinton and DeWitt County.

For Chief Lowers and his staff, it's all hands on deck that weekend. Chief Lowers explains with that many people, in years past, they've been fortunate to not have many problems.

With the lack of problems for the weekend, the Chief credits that a lot to organizers, especially at the homestead grounds. While they are rarely a problem, Chief Lowers sends out a few friendly reminders.

The Apple and Pork Festival takes place this weekend across the community. Chief Lowers says anywhere from 75-thousand to 90-thousand people will come in to Clinton for the weekend.

He encourages safety throughout the busy weekend and for those coming into the community that get caught in traffic to practice patience.
