Second Chance For Pets Showcased Adoptable Animals At Apple n' Pork

If you made your way up and down Center Street at this last weekend's Apple n' Pork Festival, you might have noticed some dogs with "Adopt Me" vests on.

DeWitt County's Second Chance for Pets adoption group brought out their pets out that are up for adoption. According to Heather Wantland with Second Chance, a lot of their pets come to them through owner relinquishment.

Second Chance for Pets doesn't just help pets find a home, they also help control the pet population. Wantland explains they do a monthly spay/neuter clinic for anyone in any county. They can also help provide emergency medical care or provide food for those in a tough spot.

Wantland indicates they are in desparate need of foster homes. She says being a foster home for a dog is a great way to keep pets out of their shelter and in a comfortable situation.

Wantland believes the biggest challenge facing their organization is the pets that aren't spayed or neutered and the accidental breeding. She encourages anyone with a pet that is not spayed or neutered to take advantage of their low cost, monthly spay neuter clinic.
