RECAP: Tuscola Downs Clinton

As heard Friday night on WHOW, the Tuscola Warriors remained perfect on the season as they downed the Clinton Maroons, 54-18.

The Maroons kept the game tight in the first half, trailing 26-12 at the intermission, but the potent Warriors offense proved too much in the second half as they pulled away for their sixth straight win.

Senior Quarterback Nick Bates put on a show for the Warriors.  He ran the ball 12 times for 158 yards and 2 scores.  He also found success through the air completing 10 of 16 pass attempts for 273 yards and 3 touchdowns.  Sophomore Dalton Hoel was Bates' favorite target as he hauled in 5 catches for 138 yards and 2 touchdowns.

The Maroons were once again led on offense by Junior Running Back Alec Cooley.  He carried the ball 26 times for 166 yards and a touchdown.  Junior Quarterback Noah Griffin rushed 8 times for 50 yards and a TD.  He was 17 of 24 passing for 194 yards.

Senior Safety Louis Hicklin returned from injury for the Maroons, and made quite an impact.  He was one of the Maroons top tacklers throughout the contest.  Hicklin was named the Stephan York Country Financial Maroons Player of the Game.

Clinton falls to 3-3 on the season, and 1-3 in the Central Illinois Conference.  Tuscola improves to 6-0 overall, and 4-0 in the CIC.

The Maroons host Warrensburg-Latham next Friday night for Homecoming.  You can hear the game on 92.3FM WHOW and online at DewittDailyNews.com.
