Baum Chevrolet Buick Classic Car Show Raises Over $10K For DOVE

Baum Chevrolet Buick's annual Apple n' Pork Classic Car Show annually benefits a family or organization in need.

This year, the Clinton business chose their next door neighbor as their benefactor. Lindsay Campbell with Baum Chevy Buick explains this year's proceeds went to their neighbor to the east, DOVE Inc of DeWitt County.

This year's show was record setter for the show. According to Campbell, over 250 registrations for the day's judging all went back to DOVE, and they did a 50/50 raffle, and special for this year was a custom built 1991 Chevrolet S10.

Megan Neville, with DOVE of DeWitt County, says they are very thankful for the generosity of their neighbors in Baum Chevrolet Buick and says it will help keep their doors open for the time being.

According to Neville, the lack of a state budget has put organizations like DOVE, who deal with domestic abuse, in jeopardy. So much so that organizations in southern Illinois have closed their doors. Neville says DOVE of central Illinois is prepared to take on some of those impacted, but she says it will hurt so many more people.

Once the show wrapped up and the two sides were able to talk, Campbell called the discussion emotional. She explains members of DOVE were there volunteering and describes what it was like to see how thankful they were.

Neville says they were able to get up and speak at the event about DOVE and what all they do.

Neville indicates she had a great time volunteering judging the vehicles and seeing all the different classics that came on the lot and called the energy of the event "a lot of fun".
