Murphy, deGrom Lead Mets Past Dodgers; Cubs Await

Daniel Murphy shocked the sleeping Dodgers by stealing an uncovered third base and went on to score the tying run. Two innings later, Murphy hit a go-ahead homer off Zack Greinke that led the New York Mets over Los Angeles 3-2 Thursday night and into an NL Championship Series matchup with the Chicago Cubs.

New York and pitcher Jacob deGrom trailed 2-1 in the fourth inning of the decisive Game 5 of their NL Division Series when Murphy singled and the Dodgers shifted three infielders to the right side and left no one near third with left-handed hitting Lucas Duda at the plate. When Duda walked on a 3-1 pitch with one out, Murphy jogged to second and suddenly sprinted to third.

Rookie shortstop Corey Seager, the closest infielder, was almost all the way toward second.

width=Murphy's opposite-field RBI double in the first drove in the game's first run. Murphy homered in the sixth for a 3-2 lead, driving a 93 mph pitch about a dozen rows into the right-field seats.

Murphy, who had three hits, batted .333 in the series and homered three times off Greinke and Kershaw. He can be a free agent after the season ends.

DeGrom (2-0), the 2014 NL Rookie of the Year, struck out seven and walked three to earn his second road win of the series.

He allowed four straight singles in the first, when Justin Turner and Andre Ethier drove in runs for a 2-1 lead. Fellow starter Noah Syndergaard started warming up as early as the second inning, and deGrom pitched his only 1-2-3 inning in the sixth.

Jeurys Familia was perfect in the first six-out save of his big career.

>>Mets Tab Harvey For Game 1

After starting Jacob deGrom and using Noah Syndergaard for an impressive inning in relief to beat the Dodgers in Game 5 of the NLDS, Mets manager Terry Collins announced Thursday that Matt Harvey will get the call in Game 1 of the NLCS against the Cubs.

Jon Lester will be the Cubs' Game 1 starter.

Harvey, 26, was 13-8 with a 2.71 ERA and 188 strikeouts in 189 1/3 innings this season. He got the win in Game 3 of the NLDS thanks in part to great run support. He gave up three runs (two earned) on seven hits while walking two and striking out seven.

Harvey saw the Cubs one time this season and he was brilliant, working seven scoreless innings while only allowing three hits. He struck out nine.

>>Blue Jays Fan Who Hit Baby With Debris Arrested

The seventh inning of the ALDS was marred Wednesday by Blue Jays fans who threw beer and cans other garbage onto the Rogers Centre field following a weird play in which the Rangers took the lead.

Fans threw stuff onto the field again after Bautista's home run.

According to the Canadian Press, one fan has been arrested after throwing beer and hitting a baby.

Toronto police say a man has been charged with mischief after a baby was hit by the spray of a thrown beer can at Wednesday's Blue Jays game.

Const. Victor Kwong says Albert Grummitt was arrested Wednesday night and has since been released. He is due in court on Nov. 24.

Police say the baby was with her mother in the front row of the Rogers Centre when the can was tossed their way.
