State Rep. Wants Attacks on Veterans To Be Hate Crime

State Representative Jerry Costello II is drafting legislation inspired by the deadly July attack on military personnel in Chatanooga, Tennessee.

The Smithon (St. Clair County) Democrat has filed a bill to add attacks on retired or current military personnel as a hate crime.

It's not addressed in the legislation but Costello is weighing in on military personnel who aren't allowed to carry weapons in places like recruiting centers.

Costello served with the 82nd Airborne during Operation Desert Storm.
