Illini WR Dudek To Seek Redshirt; Minnesota Coach Kill Retires

width=Illinois receiver Mike Dudek will apply for a medical redshirt after missing most of the season with a torn ACL in his right knee. Sports information director Kent Brown says the sophomore will not play this season.

Interim coach Bill Cubit has said for weeks that it was unlikely.

>>Jerry Kill Retiring From Minnesota Coaching Position

Minnesota announced Wednesday morning coach Jerry Kill is retiring, effective immediately, because of "medical concerns."

At an emotional press conference Wednesday, Kill said he was retiring on the advice of his doctors. He was diagnosed with epilepsy in 2005, has suffered seizures on the sideline during games, and as recently as 2013, was forced to take a seven-game leave of absence to focus on his health. Kill confirmed Wednesday that he suffered two recent seizures.

Despite his health struggles, Kill enjoyed great success with the previously moribund Gophers, taking them to three consecutive bowl games and earning the Big Ten's 2014 Coach of the Year honor. The Gophers' 5-3 Big Ten record that year marked the program's first winning league season since 2003. Kill retires with a 29-29 record at Minnesota and a 156-102 overall coaching record, much of it spent rebuilding similarly downtrodden programs at Northern Illinois and FCS Southern Illinois.
