Republicans Criticize Measure As Not Showing Revenue Sources

A measure that would reverse the governor’s changes to the Child Care Assistance Program doesn’t take into account the overall budget which could lead to bigger problems.

That’s according to opponents of Senate Bill 570, which could come back up for a vote next week when lawmakers return to Springfield. House sponsor of the measure, Democrat Jehan Gordon-Booth, pushed for the bill’s passage in September saying the measure reversing the governor’s changes to C-CAP keeps parents off of other welfare programs.

During that September debate Republican Representative Ron Sandack said the measure doesn’t take into account the financial impact to the overall state budget.

Sandack says he understands the importance of the bill but wants there to be an entire budget with revenue backing up what lawmakers are looking to spend.
