Cubs Unveil Logo Celebrating Century At Wrigley

width=The Cubs will have a patch on their home uniforms next year to celebrate the team's century of play at Wrigley Field.

The team revealed the round logo on Thursday. It is blue, white and red and includes a version of the team's 1916 logo, but there is no representation of the iconic ballpark.

The franchise played in five ballparks before moving to its current home in 1916. The facility's first tenant was the Chi-Feds beginning in 1914, but the Federal League folded in December 1915 and a group of investors bought the Cubs and moved them into Weeghman Park.

Weeghman Park was renamed Cubs Park before becoming Wrigley Field in 1926.

The Cubs celebrated Wrigley Field's 100 years during the 2014 season.

>>Mets Harvey, Rangers Fielder Comeback Players of the Year

Major League Baseball awarded its Comeback Player of the Year awards to Matt Harvey of the Mets and Prince Fielder of the Rangers on Thursday, capping amazing turnaround seasons for both players in 2015.

The NL winner, Harvey missed all of 2014 recovering from Tommy John elbow ligament replacement surgery Oct. 22, 2013. In 2015, he posted a 2.71 ERA (sixth in the NL) and 188 strikeouts in 189 1/3 innings pitched for the Mets, who won the NL East for the first time since 2006. He also posted a 3.04 ERA in four postseason games -- two in the World Series, including the deciding Game 5 against the Royals, which he led 2-0 heading into the ninth inning. After he talked manager Terry Collins into letting him pitch one more inning, the Royals mounted a comeback to tie the score, and won in 12 innings.

The AL winner, Fielder sustained a neck injury in 2014 and was limited to three home runs in 42 games. After having surgery and re-tooling his workout regimen, Fielder rebounded to hit .305 with 23 home runs and an .841 on-base plus slugging in 158 games. He also made the All-Star game for the sixth time. From 2006 until his injury season of 2014, Fielder had played in all but 13 of the possible 1,296 games with the Brewers and Tigers.

>>Mariners, Rays Make Six Player Swap

We have our first major trade of the offseason. The Rays and Mariners have announced a six-player trade that sends first baseman/outfielder Logan Morrison, righty reliever Danny Farquhar and utility man Brad Miller to Tampa Bay in exchange for righty starter Nathan Karns, lefty reliever C.J. Riefenhauser and outfield prospect Boog Powell.

The trade is the first for new Mariners GM Jerry Dipoto, who took over last month. He replaced Jack Zduriencik, who was let go during the team's disappointing 2015 season. Dipoto resigned as Angels GM at midseason after losing a power struggle with manager Mike Scioscia. Owner Arte Moreno sided with Scioscia.

Miller, 26, is the key piece for the Rays. He's a career .248/.313/.394 (101 OPS+) hitter who can play shortstop -- a position of need in Tampa -- but also has experience all over the infield and outfield.

The Rays are hoping Miller turns into their long-term shortstop, or, at the very least, becomes a supersub who can capably play multiple positions. They have the pitching depth to spare, which is why they moved Karns. Dipoto, meanwhile, is trying to make his roster a bit more flexible.
