49ers Cut Former Illini Pierre Thomas; Luck Out For Colts

Pierre Thomas' time with the 49ers is already over, as the team released the running back on Tuesday, just a week after signing him to a contract.

The 49ers only signed him because they needed an extra body to fill in for a banged up Carlos Hyde (foot) and Reggie Bush, who recently lost his season due to a serious knee injury.

But for Thomas, it was quite the week. Though he only carried the ball four times for 12 yards against the Falcons on Sunday, Thomas scored big -- financially, at least.

The 49ers paid RB Pierre Thomas $51,176, or 1/17th of the NFL veteran minimum, for his one week of service.

So, if Thomas brought in $51,176 for that one game, he really earned roughly $4,265 per yard! That's not the worst part-time job in the world.

The Indianapolis Colts announced on Tuesday that quarterback Andrew Luck sustained multiple injuries during Sunday's win over the Denver Broncos that will keep him out for several weeks. Those injuries include a lacerated kidney and a partial tear of his abdominal muscle, per the Colts' official website.

Per the Colts, it is not yet known how long Luck will be out, but the injuries will take two to six weeks to heal.

Without Luck, the Colts will have to turn to backup QB Matt Hasselbeck, who also filled on for the Jaguars and Texans games, acquitting himself fairly despite being sick during the week leading up to the Houston game.

The Colts, who will take their bye this coming Sunday, have the Falcons, Buccaneers, Steelers, Jaguars, Texans, and Dolphins coming up in the next six games on their schedule before they take on the Titans in the season finale. They're currently in first place in the AFC South at 4-5, one game ahead of Houston.
