You may notice a lot of police and emergency services activity in DeWitt County on Wednesday, but most of it will be in preparation for an actual crisis.
A counter-terrorism drill will occur on Wednesday in DeWitt County. Sheriff Jered Shofner said that this drill has been planned for nearly a year as part of their ongoing emergency planning process to protect and support the Clinton Nuclear Power Plant.
“We want everyone to know that this is not a real life event, but a part of a commitment to constantly improve public safety," said Shofner. "Numerous local, state, and federal emergency response organizations are involved in this process. The terrorist attacks in Paris are a reminder that we must always be vigilant.”
Area residents may see an unusual amount of emergency vehicles and hear unusual police radio traffic.
