Okaw Valley, Heart of Illinois Among Conferences With Strong Showings in November

A pair of central Illinois football conferences could be well represented next weekend in DeKalb for the IHSA football state finals.

This weekend, the Heart of Illinois and Okaw Valley Conferences will be well represented in the semi-final round of the IHSA football playoffs, and the Okaw Valley will be represented at Northern Illinois' Huskey Stadium next weekend.

 width=Tomorrow afternoon, Tolono Unity and St. Joseph-Ogden will clash in a Class 3A semi final game at Tolono starting at 1 pm.

St. Joe-Ogden is undefeated at 12-0 on the year and Unity is 9-3. The Spartans are coming off a thrilling 26-21 victory over previously unbeaten Bloomington Central Cathoic while Unity is coming off a thrilling come-from-behind 41-34 win in Monticello last Saturday.

Earlier this year, the Spartans toppled the Rockets 34-14.

The winner meets the either Kankakee McNamar (11-1) or Elmhurst Catholic (11-1) next Friday at 4 pm.

As for the Heart of Illinois, Downs Tri-Valley has flexed their muscles en route to a Class 2A semi-final match up with Kewanee Wethersfield in Downs Saturday afternoon.

The Vikings closest competion the postseason was their opening round 22-0 win over Savanna West Carroll.

The Vikings rolled Taylor Ridge Rockridge 41-7 then rocked Dee-Mack 57-20 last week.

Taking an almost inverse path, the ninth seeded LeRoy Panthers have played Cinderella on the road to a Class 1A semi-final matchup with undefeated Arcola.

LeRoy went on the road to Greenfield-Northwest for an upset 30-0 win. Then upset top-seeded, and Central Illinois Conference member Tuscola 20-13.

The Panthers then upset fourth-seeded Carrollton in LeRoy last Saturday, again in convincing fashion, 30-6.

The competition takes a big step up this week as Little Okaw Valley member Arcola welcomes the Panthers to town for a 2 pm showdown.

The Purple Riders offense has been challenged just once this and that was last week against formerly unbeaten GCMS, where the Purple Riders escaped with at 14-13 victory.

The Panthers or Purple Riders will meet either Toulon Stark County or Ottawa Marquette next week at 10 am in DeKalb.

Tomorrow's winner between Tri-Valley and Kewanee-Weathersfield will meet Auburn or Nashville at 2 pm at Huskie Stadium.

Class 5A:
