Illini Comeback At Ohio State Falls Short; Illinois State Wins; Bradley Crushed

 width=Marc Loving scored 27 points, including two late free throws, to lead Ohio State to a 75-73 win over Illinois on Sunday.

The Buckeyes (10-5, 2-0 Big Ten) have won six straight.

Loving scored six straight points to carry Ohio State from a 61-59 deficit to a 65-61 lead with 2:21 to play thanks to a dunk, a 3-pointer and a foul shot.

OSU held a five-point lead when Michael Finke's tip-in made it 70-67 with 23.3 seconds left. Jae-Sean Tate's slam with 12.6 seconds left made 72-67 before Jalen Coleman-Lands hit a trey to pull Illinois (8-7, 0-2) within 72-70.

A pair of Loving free throws upped the score to 74-70 but Malcolm Hill hit another 3-pointer with 2.3 seconds left. Loving made one of two foul shots and a desperation shot from midcourt by Hill at the buzzer missed.

Hill, Kendrick Nunn, Coleman-Lands and Finke all had 14 points.

 width=DeVaughn Akoon-Purcell scored a career-high 28 and Illinois State rallied to beat Drake 67-62 on Sunday.

Akoon-Purcell scored 12 points and Paris Lee seven when the Redbirds (8-7, 2-0 Missouri Valley) outscored the Bulldogs 21-6 over the first 10 minutes of the second half to lead by three.

After that, the lead changed hands six times and the game tied five times before Tony Wills' 3-pointer with 1:22 put Illinois State in front 63-60. Lee made four free throws from there while the Bulldogs (5-9, 0-2) missed a pair of 3-pointers in the final 30 seconds.

Drake led 32-22 at halftime as the Redbirds shot just 26.5 percent before intermission.

Lee had 15 points and Deontae Hawkins 12 for the Redbirds, who shot 61 percent in the second half.

Drake's Reed Timmer scored 16 points and had Graham Woodward 15.

Illinois State is 2-0 in the MVC for the first time since 2008-09.

 width=Markis McDuffie scored 14 points, Fred Van Vleet added 13 and Wichita State used a balanced attack to roll over Bradley 85-58 on Sunday.

Wichita State (8-5, 2-0 Missouri Valley) had seven players score between six and 14 points and the Shockers shot over 55 percent (27 of 49) as a team.

Bradley (2-13, 0-2) was led by Dwayne Lautier-Ogunleye with nine points. The Braves committed 23 turnovers and made 6 of 22 beyond the arc.

The Shockers made a 12-0 run over 5:04 in the first half to build a 48-24 lead at intermission.

Bradley didn't score for nearly four minutes to start the second half, turning it over four times in the span, and Wichita State's lead hit the 30-point mark with 9:47 left on a layup by Eric Hamilton.
