Monticello School's Leader Says Property Tax Freeze Would Not Impact Them Greatly

width=There's still no budget in place for the State of Illinois, which means area school leaders still are unsure of the future of what their revenues may look like beyond this year.

The tax-freeze legislation has been among about a half a dozen issues concerning local school leaders while lawmakers hash out a budget in Springfield. Monticello Schools Superintendent Dr Vic Zimmerman says the idea of a tax freeze is great but he says the impacts are not.

Even if a property tax freeze were to go into effect, Dr. Zimmerman says that would not greatly impact Monticello Schools because most of their budget comes from the Corporate Personal Property Replacement Tax, or CPPRT. He says because of that revenue, they've built up a nice reserve.

Dr. Zimmerman indicates he does not have any insight as to what will ultimately come of the legislation since much of the negotiation process is playing out behind closed doors.
