Spieth Says Too Early For Woods Comparisons

Jordan Spieth joined Woods on Sunday at the Tournament of Champions as the only golfers since World War II to win seven PGA Tour events before turning 23. The question is not whether Spieth is tracking Woods at this point. The only question is, "how long can he keep it up?"

width=There have been zero other golfers since World War II who have won seven times before their 23rd birthday. For comparison, Rory McIlroy had three wins.

Spieth turns 23 in late July so who knows how many wins (or majors) he will have added by then. The problem for him is what Woods did in the years just after he turned 23. By the time he turned 26, Woods had won 29 times and collected six majors. Spieth is going to have to turn up the heat to match those figures.

But after what we saw over the weekend in Maui, are we sure this is not going to happen? Patrick Reed and Brooks Koepka put on unbelievable performances at the Tournament of Champions. They finished a combined 43 under and got destroyed by eight and nine strokes respectively.

Fifth-place finisher Rickie Fowler said quote-"It's just solid golf and I think you're going to see a lot of that like he did last year. You're going to have to play a good solid golf tournament to have a chance to win."

As for those Woods comparisons, Spieth doesn't want them but he also likes them.

He said Sunday quote-"I just think (the Woods comparisons are) premature, but I'll say that probably my entire career. There's just such an age gap that I understand there's comparisons are going to be there. I hope they continue to be there, that means I'm still being in the same ballpark as he is."

Spieth doesn't seem like he's leaving the ballpark anytime soon.
