Illinois Chamber Weighs in On Tax Hike

The wait for an Illinois budget has faded somewhat from the headlines as a number of court orders has reduced the pain of the lack of a spending blueprint.

There are continued concerns about revenue but Illinois Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Todd Maisch doesn't believe returning to the old 5% income tax rate is the answer.

Maisch says while some may not feel the pain of a state without a budget, he believes that could soon change for a number of Illinoisans.

Maisch is pleased with some new Illinois laws now in effect, in particular changes to unemployment benefits. Now individuals who commit harmful actions that hurt their employer will no longer be covered.
