House Fire in Kenney Thursday Night

A house fire in Kenney resulted in damage to the second floor of a two story home.

The Kenney Fire Department was called to the 200th block of Henderson Street in Kenney to reports of a house fire around 7 pm Thursday night.

Kenney Fire Chief Earl Jiles indicates there was a fire on the second story resulting in heavy fire and smoke damage but did not believe the structure was a total loss. He also indicates the lower floor received water damage.

He could not give a cause until the State Fire Marshall released their findings. The Fire Marshall was at the home this morning.

Crews from Clinton, Wapella, and Maroa were on scene until approximately 10 pm Thursday.

Chestnut Fire Protection District was called to man the Kenney Fire Station.

Chief Jiles says they were fortunate temperatures were not nearly as cold as we've seen in the last few weeks but he says the cold was definitely still a factor in fighting the fire.

He indicates they rotated their crews in and out to keep them warm. The American Red Cross was also on scene to aid in the care of the firefighters and provide assistance to the impacted family.
