Governor Rauner Creates New Agency To Streamline Technology

The state of Illinois is set to change the way it approaches information technology.

Governor Bruce Rauner’s plan is to consolidate all state agencies and CMS technology departments together to streamline the process for information sharing. Rauner, standing at the Department of Corrections headquarters today said that that department files through more than 276,000 pieces of paper a day.

Rauner contends Illinois spends the 3rd most on IT infrastructure but the state has one of the worst ratings for digital services among the other 50 states.

It will be known as the Department of Innovation and Technology. In all there are about 1,700 IT jobs inside of state government where an estimated $800 million is spent on yearly basis.

The Governor did not have an immediate figure of how much money could or would be saved by this consolidation.
