Governor's Agency To Consolidate Information Technology

Illinois’ governor hopes to find potentially hundreds of million of dollars in savings for taxpayers by creating a new state agency.

It’s called the Department of Innovation and Technology and it was announced through executive order Monday morning in Springfield. Governor Bruce Rauner says every state agency has their own information technology operations which is inefficient and a waste of resources. The new director, Hardik Bhatt, says there’s a long way to go after the announcement.

Bhatt says there’s a decentralized system with agencies using dozens of different outdated programs and they want to move to a more modern centralized system where taxpayers experience seamless interaction with government and for caseworkers to access documents on tablets and smartphones.
