Republicans are looking to give the governor authority to do more fund sweeps to help pay for MAP grants and higher education.
Democratic Representative Kelly Burke said a measure Democrats support to fund MAP grants doesn’t include a revenue stream outside of what the state is currently bringing in.

Republican Representative Tim Butler says passing a bill without a revenue stream is a bad idea. Butler says there’s another measure that would allow the governor to sweep funds, an unpopular practice, but something the Springfield-area lawmaker says is needed right now.

Regardless of the Republican’s plan, the Democrats’ bill passed 67-42 and now heads to the Senate.
