Senate Passes MAP Funding Bill Without Funding Source

It’s on to the governor’s desk with a bill Democrats say will fund MAP grants, but House Republicans says it’s sure to be vetoed because there’s not a funding source.

During debate on concurring several House amendments to Senate Bill 2043, Democratic Senator Donne Trotter said the legislature must act to free MAP grants.

However, leading Republican Senator Matt Murphy said the measure is an empty gesture.

Meanwhile Republicans had a plan to fund MAP grants and money for higher education. They also have another bill that would give the governor more broad budget management ability for the current fiscal year.
