House Republican Leader Jim Durkin wants to curtail illegal movement of guns across Illinois. The Western Springs Republican is sponsoring legislation to create the offense of firearms trafficking.

Durkin discussed gun violence statistics for the City of Chicago before the House Judiciary Criminal Law Committee.

Citing statistics for Chicago alone, Durkin said the General Assembly needs to do its part in fighting the violence.

The measure was approved in committee and now moves on to the full House for their consideration.
