Rep. Mitchell Calls on Speaker To Address Clinton Power Station

If it was 600 jobs on the line in Chicago, you can bet Speaker Mike Madigan would be on the ball making sure those jobs stayed put.

That's what State Representative Bill Mitchell equates the Clinton Nuclear Power plant to. He says the Speaker needs to address keeping the station open as it nears a deadline for closure.

The 600 jobs in DeWitt County at the power plant not only make it the largest employer in the County, but Rep. Mitchell says it is vital to the economy of central Illinois.

Rep. Mitchell also points out if the power plant were to close down, electric bills across the area "would go sky high".

Dozens of DeWitt County residents rallied in Springfield last summer in an effort to keep not only Exelon's plant in Clinton open, but those across the state.

Little movement has been made in Springfield in an effort to bring nuclear power in line with the rest of the industry.
