Tough path to new farm bill

The 2014 Farm Bill is a four year bill, expiring in 2018. We are now in the last half of 2016, and by the time we get past the elections and the lame duck session of congress we will be in 2017. With the gridlock in congress, the old rural/urban coalition that successfully crafted farm bills in the past has fallen apart, leading 15th District Congessman Rodney Davis, who sits on the House Ag Committee to question the ability of congress to agree on a new bill by 2018.

Davis participated in a Congressional Round table, hosted by the RFD Network this week at the Illinois State Fair.
The congressman says putting together the 2014 bill was a struggle, and came about only because Republican and Democrats were able to craft a bill that met the needs ag agriculture, but also satisfied the large coalition of budget cutters.

Many in congress feel the difficulty in crafting a new farm bill will result in essentially extending the current farm, perhaps with a few tweaks.
