Bills Passed by the Senate Could Dramatically Effect Clinton

Taxes, bills and the Illinois state budget were topics at Monday night's City Council meeting.

Commissioner Tom Edmunds spoke on legislation that, if passed in the House, would dramatically effect the city of Clinton and a dead Senate bill that would have cut Clinton's municipal revenue.

Edmunds adds that if a budget is not agreed upon, we will find ourselves in a situation where taxes will not be paid until they are appropriated.

A temporary two year tax freeze was passed by the senate. Another bill was passed that excludes the city of Chicago and school districts. There will be an exemption for pensions and bonds.

If the bill is approved in the House and signed by the governor, it will be implemented.
