SIUE Investigates Racially-Charged Vandalism

Campus police at SIU Edwardsville are investigating vandalism in the form of racial and homophobic slurs on campus in recent days. One incident involved hair gel being used to write a slur on a student's car, another was a car-keying incident also with a racial slur. Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs Jeffrey Waple (WAY-pull) says both of those incidents happened on the parking lot for the Evergreen residence hall.

Last year, a racist note was found on an African American student’s apartment door. Administrators offered a free semester’s tuition for information leading to the identification of the person committing the acts, but no one was ever caught. Discussions are taking place in this incident with students and the Bias Incident Report Team.
