Oregon RB Retires From Football

Oregon announced on Friday that running back Thomas Tyner is retiring from football. According to coach Mark Helfrich, the reasons for Tyner's retirement are injuries he suffered that caused him to miss the 2015 season.

Helfrich said in a statement quote- “We will continue to support his efforts to graduate from the University of Oregon.”

It was reported in August that Tyner would miss the 2015 season to undergo surgery on his shoulder. The injury originally occurred in an Oregon game against Washington during the 2014 season. Tyner had been experiencing "lingering pain and discomfort" in the shoulder.

Tyner was a much-hyped recruit when he came to Oregon as an in-state product from Aloha High School. He was not only a five-star running back in the 2013 recruiting class but the No. 1 running back in the entire country that year.

In his freshman season with the Ducks, Tyner rushed for 711 yards and nine touchdowns. As a sophomore, he rushed for 573 yards and five touchdowns but dealt with injuries that cost him most or all of five games that season, including the shoulder injury that led to him missing the 2015 season.
