McIlroy Come to Aid of Spieth

World No. 1 Jordan Spieth had a rough week on social media. Actually, he had a rough week in general.

Spieth got torched by golf fans on Twitter and other forms of social media -- after he posted a 5-over 76 in the first round of the Valspar Championship -- basically for not being Tiger Woods and shooting 64 every round. One outlet even made a list of things that could be wrong with Spieth.

Spieth, by the way, has finished in the top 25 in five of six tournaments this season (including a win).

Then Spieth responded to one of these trolls on Instagram before apologizing profusely and saying it wouldn't happen again. This was odd to see from the normally-docile Spieth. His buddy Rory McIlroy reached out to defend him.

McIroy tweeted quote-"No, he's not TW, he's not slumping and he's not done. He's a double major winning 22 year old. He'll be just fine!!"

"Really poor from both me and [caddie] Michael [Greller] today,'' Spieth told ESPN. "Our decisions cost us a few shots early and all the momentum. We both get the credit when things are going good and we're going to take the fall today. I hit the shots, but we made a couple decisions that make me look back and think, 'Wow, we got some stuff to talk about before we get ready to go to a major.' Bit of a bummer. But it's OK. We got plenty of time."

That's unlike Spieth to bring his caddie down with him. And yet his ability to do it in such a way that makes you think the two went out for ice cream to talk it over is what makes him so endearing. Some people seem genuinely worried about Spieth's short and long-term future.

Which is pre-mature.
