It would be quite something if the Big Three all made the final four this week at the Match Play Championship. That dream is still alive as Jordan Spieth, Rory McIlroy and Jason Day all won their matches on Thursday and moved to 2-0-0 on the week.
Spieth and Day are two of the five golfers guaranteed at worst a playoff if they lose on Friday to move into the Sweet 16. McIlroy has to beat Kevin Na outright as both are 2-0-0. Obviously, if Day and Spieth win outright, then no playoff would be needed in their pools.
Day and Spieth won in routs on Thursday, too. Spieth beat Victor Dubuisson 5 and 4. Day beat Thongchai Jaidee 5 and 3. McIlroy got a test from Smylie Kaufman but pulled away at the end and won 3 and 1.
