Sages Go 0-3 Friday, Saturday

>>Warrensburg-Latham Rallies For Win Over the Sages

The Warrensburg-Latham Cardinals rallied for five unanswered runs on Friday afternoon for a 5-4 victory over Monticello in non-conference boys baseball action from Warrensburg-Latham High School.

Trailing 4-0 after four, the Cardinals touched up sophomore starter Alex Marquardt for two runs before his exit in the fifth, then got Nick Hopper for two more runs before a seventh inning rally off Luke Stokowski ended the game in walk off fashion for Warrensburg-Latham.

Logan Hislope and Nathan Graham each tallied a pair of hits apiece. Hislope had two RBIs and Graham scored twice to pace the Sages offense.

Jacob Burton reached base three times with a 1-for-2 effort and a pair of walks with a run scored.

Stokowski and Konner Bundy each added a hit apiece as well.

>>Sages Drop Two In Saturday Double Header

The Monticello Sages dropped a pair of games to Mahomet-Seymour in Saturday, non-conference double-header action from Monticello High School.

The Sages started the opener of the twin-bill with a 3-1 advantage, but a four-run fourth inning  was enough for the Bulldogs to pull away for a 6-4 final.

Luke Stokowski bounced back after taking the loss in a walk-off decision to Warrensburg-Latham Friday for a 3-for-4 day at the plate with a double and run scored.

Jacob Burton was 2-for-4 with a run scored and run batted in. Logan Hislope was 1-for- with a pair of walks and a run scored. Garret Myers drove in a run and Mitch Rhoades walked twice.

In the second game, Mahomet-Seymour rallied for three runs in the sixth inning, propeling them past Monticello 7-5.

Each team opened with a 3-run first inning, trailing 7-3, the Sages put two runs up in the sixth inning, cutting the deficit to 7-5, but that would be all the closer Monticello would get as they dropped their third straight of the week.

Logan Hislope finished 2-for-4 with a run and walk. Jacob Burton was 1-for-3 with an RBI double and walked as well. Konner Bundy scored twice and drew a walk, finishing 1-for-3.

Tim Rudolph and Luke Stokowski each added base hits.

After a tough finish to the week, the Sages drop to 14-9 overall.

Their scheduled game today with Urbana has been canceled. Monticello is in action next tomorrow at home, hosting Matoon.

Their Friday game with Mt. Zion has also been canceled.

Announced last week by the IHSA, Monticello is in the St. Joseph-Ogden Regional. As the 4th seed, they will take on Fithian-Oakwood next Thursday at 4:30 pm.
