GOLF: DJ Off To Strong Start At Tour Championship

The final PGA Tour event of the 2015-2016 season is apparently not the time for surprises. Dustin Johnson, who has owned the latter half of the PGA Tour season, shot a 66 in the first round of the Tour Championship and is tied with Hideki Matsuyama and Kevin Chappell at 4 under atop the leaderboard after 18 holes of play at East Lake.
Johnson made five birdies and a bogey and was fifth in the field in putting on Day 1 of the year's finale. It's always going to be difficult to beat D.J. when he's fifth in any tournament in putting, much less a tournament with just 30 golfers.

He's really feeling it too. Coming off a win in the BMW Championship two weeks ago, he's right back to that familiar first-place slot on the leaderboard after the first round. A win here would be Johnson's fourth on the season and guarantee him the PGA Tour Player of the Year Award.

Jason Day (-3), Jordan Spieth (-2) and Rory McIlroy (-2) lurk in the top ten at East Lake. Matt Kuchar and Adam Scott are both one-under and Bubba Watson is two-over after the first round.

Only 30 golfers are invited to East Lake.
