Sages Win Big Over Westville

The Monticello Sages scored the game’s first two scores, opening a 12-0 lead and never looked back in a 41-14 rout of Westville Saturday afternoon in Class 3A IHSA playoff football action from Westville.

 

Leading 28-7 with under a minute to play in the half, the Sages allowed an 80-yard kick return for a touchdown to Cameron Nicholas, allowing Westville to cut the lead 28-14 going into the half, but the Sages got the ball to start the second half and went on an 11 play drive that lasted 4:13 for 58 yards, capped by a Lucas Lieb 1 yard touchdown run, putting Monticello ahead 35-14. The Sages would control the ball and continue to keep a powerful Westville offense in check the rest of the way.

Caleb Hanson was efficient all day, finishing 28 for 40 with 284 yards with four touchdowns. Hanson only put the ball in the air eight times in the second half, capping the day with an 8-yard touchdown pass to Alek Bundy.

 

Hanson also finished with 53 yards on the ground and a touchdown.

 

Lieb finished with 36 yards rushing.

 

Johnny Dawson led all Sages receiver with eight receptions for 86 yards. Nathan Graham grabbed seven catches for 88 yards.

 

Isiah Florey had two touchdown receptions on six grabs and 34 yards.

 

Bundy finished with five catches for 39 yards.

 

Westville finishes their season at 10-1.

 

Monticello moves to 11-0 and will play Farmington next week.

 

Farmington beat Elmwood-Brimfield.

 

Game time has yet to be determined.
