Monticello Falls to IC Catholic 3A Semifinal Action

The powerful run game of IC Catholic was too much for the Monticello Sages Saturday afternoon as the Knights rolled to a 48-6 win in the semifinal round of Class 3A.

On the second play from scrimmage for IC Catholic, Jack Leinhart jumped a bubble screen by Knights' quarterback Luke Ricobene, setting up a Caleb Hanson 2 yard touchdown run, giving Monticello a 6-0 lead after a failed two-point conversion.

It was all IC Catholic from there.

Division I runningback Jordan Rowell ran for 299 yards and three touchdowns.

The Sages were led by Hanson, who completed 12 of 29 passes for 89 yards and was intercepted twice. He also ran for 53 yards and a touchdown.

The Sages finish their 2016 season 12-1 overall.

Coach Cully Welter is proud of his team, especially for their never-quit attitude against the top seed in Class 3A.

Coach Welter says it can be hard at the end of a game to express what a team like this means but he feels the kids have a lot to be proud of.

IC Catholic will play Carlinville next Friday afternoon at 4 pm at Memorial Stadium in Champaign for the state title.
