Sages Use Big Second Half To Get By PBL

In a game heard on 95.9 FM WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com, the scripts were flipped when Monticello routed Paxton-Buckley-Lolda 59-38 Thursday night in a game that was being made up after being postponed in December.

In the third-fourth place game from the Monticello Holiday Hoopla, PBL shot 80% from the floor in the second half and made 10-of-12 three point shots to rout the Sages for third place back on December 29, however, Thursday night, it was Monticello who had everything fall in the second half, as the Sages outscored PBL 40-16 in the paint while going 16-for-21 in the second half to flip a 21-all tie at halftime into a 21-point victory.

PBL struggled to adjust to a zone defense the Sages used in the second half and made just six field goals on 24 attempts in the second half.

Isiah Florey scored nine of his 17 points in the third quarter to lead all scorers. Johnny Dawson added 15 points, Luke Stokowski added 14 points with seven rebounds.

Luke Fitton scored 15 points to lead PBL.

Andrew Zenner went for a double-double at the December matchup but was held to just seven points and five rebounds while Cole Eschleman also scored 20 points in the December matchup, scored just six points Thursday.

PBL drops to 8-5 overall while Monticello improves to 9-3.

The Sages take on Meridian Saturday night at 7:30 pm. Hear the action on 95.9 FM WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com.
