Illinois State Stays Unbeaten in Missouri Valley Play; Illinois, Bradley Lose

Deontae Hawkins scored 19 points and Illinois State pulled away in the second half to beat Drake, 72-58 Saturday to keep its Missouri Valley Conference unblemished.
 
Graham Woodward hit a 3-pointer with one second left in the first half to get Drake within four at intermission, 30-26. But the Bulldogs got no closer in the second half after Billy Wampler's 3-pointer made it 46-42 with just over 10 minutes left.
 
Phil Fayne's layup with 8:04 remaining gave the Redbirds a 10-point lead and DJ Clayton's tip-in off an offensive rebound pushed the lead to 14.
 
Clayton finished with 15 points off the bench for Illinois State (16-4, 8-0). MiKyle McIntosh added 12 points and grabbed nine rebounds.
 
Drake was held to just 30.5 shooting from the field (18 of 59), including 10 of 32 from long range.
 
Reed Timmer and Woodward each had 13 points to lead the Bulldogs.

D.J. Wilson scored 12 of his 19 points in the first half, helping Michigan build a double-digit lead in a 66-57 win over Illinois on Saturday.
 
The Wolverines (13-7, 3-4 Big Ten) lost to the Fighting Illini (12-8, 2-5) by 16 points Jan. 11 on the road.
 
Michigan's Derrick Walton had 11 of his 13 points in the second half and grabbed a season-high 11 rebounds. Zak Irvin scored 15 and Moritz Wagner added eight points for the Wolverines.
 
Illinois didn't have a player in double digits until there was 4:23 left, when Malcom Hill made a jumper. Hill finished with 16 points while reserves Te'Jon Lucas scored eight and Mike Thorne had seven points.
 
The Wilson-led Wolverines took control with a 13-3 run midway through the first half. The 6-foot-10 junior forward helped Michigan turn a one-point deficit into a 22-13 lead with 10 points in fewer than eight minutes. He made a 3-pointer, baskets off offensive rebounds and a free throw during the dominant stretch.

Dequon Miller matched his career high with 24 points and Alize Johnson added 13 points while grabbing 13 rebounds as Missouri State pulled away late to beat Bradley 76-62 on Saturday.
Johnson, who garnered his 12th double-double this season and had his ninth straight game with 10 or more rebounds, hauled in seven offensive boards.
 
Miller drilled 3 of 5 from distance and Chris Kendrix chipped in 17 points with four steals and one block.
 
Missouri State (14-7, 5-3 Missouri Valley Conference) led 41-31 at the break and was up 59-50 at the midpoint of the second period. A Koch Bar jumper closed the gap to 59-55 with 6:32 left but Kendrix made two free throws and Johnson drilled a 3-pointer for a 64-55 lead two minutes later and the Bears cruised home.
 
DonteThomas had 17 points and Jayden Hodgson added 16 for Bradley (8-13, 3-5).
