Monticello Preparing For First Trip To State Finals

The Monticello boys basketball team punched the school's first ever ticket to the state finals Tuesday night after a 51-49 upset victory of top-ranked Quincy Notre Dame.

The Sages will take on Chicago Orr and Sages head coach Kevin Roy says their speed and quickness is going to be tough to handle. He says they are going to have to play their game and control the tempo.

The defense for Monticello has come a long ways in the second half of the season and has helped propel them into the postseason. Coach Roy says the defensive effort of his team has been contagious.

Monticello has not take an overnight road trip this regular season and the state tournament brings added distractions with a big venue and more media attention. Coach Roy says he gives his kids at least the experience of an overnight trip during their summer schedule.

Monticello will take on Chicago Orr Friday night from Carver Arena in the Peoria Civic Center at 7:15 pm. Hear all the action on 95.9 FM WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com.

We'll have more coverage on Monticello's run to the state tournament throughout the week and weekend on Regional Radio.
