Chicago Orr Defeats Monticello At State Semifinals

Chicago Orr used a fast 16-4 start and never looked back as the Spartans were too much for Monticello in a 62-44 Class 2A State Semifinal victory from Carver Arena at the Peoria Civic Center Friday night.

The Sages went to the half trailing 38-20 and Isiah Florey tried to will the Sages back in the game with 11 of his game high 19 points in the third quarter but the Orr answered every Sages run with a run of their own to create more separation.

Head Coach for Monticello, Kevin Roy says it was the quick start that the Spartans got off to that was the difference in the game. He also pointed to Orr’s ability to control the glass as a reason his team struggled early.

Point guard Johnny Dawson felt Orr’s defensive intensity and length made it difficult for them to get into any offensive rythm.

Florey (right) led all scorers with 19 points. Calvin Fisher chipped in with 12 points.

The Sages were outscored in the paint 30-26 while Orr controlled the glass 35-21. Orr also had 19 second chance points on 16 offensive rebounds.

Chicago Orr will go for a state title tomorrow night at 7:15 pm opposite Mt. Carmel.

The Sages will take on Kankakee McNamara at 5:30 pm for 3rd place. Hear all the action on 95.9 FM WEZC and online at dewittdailynews.com.
