Lady Sages Drop Extra Inning Game To Meridian

The Monticello Lady Sages could not overcome their own miscues on a cold Wednesday afternoon and fell to the Meridian Lady Hawks 10-8 in non-conference softball action from Monticello High School.

The Lady Sages jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead after two innings, but the Lady Hawks fought back with a three run third inning and four run fourth inning to take a 7-6 lead.

The Lady Hawks threatened to extend the 7-6 lead in the fifth inning with a lead off double then a walk. A passed ball allowed for runners at second and third with no one out. Taylor Wunderlich, on in relief of starting pitcher Leslie Taylor, got the ninth hitter for the Lady Hawks to pop out to shortstop Jenny Hinton, then struck out leadoff hitter Kaelee Stockton. A two-out walk to Jesse Damery loaded the bases but Amy Aukamp popped out to third base to end the threat.

They would add a run in the sixth inning, but the Lady Sages tied it at 8 after six and with a runner on second and one out in the bottom of the seventh, they could not get the run in and the game went to extra innings where a crucial error allowed the winning run to score and an insurance run to get into scoring position, that would later come around to score.

The Lady Sages committed four errors on the game.

Makayla Reedy led the Lady Sages, going 3-for-3 with a walk, a pair of doubles and three runs batted in. Mackenzie Reedy was 1-for-3 with a two-run single that tied the game the sixth inning.

She tried to score on an errant throw to third but was thrown out at the plate in what would have been the go-ahead run.

Delaney Hildehrandt reached base twice on a single and a walk and scored two runs for the Lady Sages.

Mackenzie Reedy also scored twice for Monticello.

Leslie Taylor, Hannah Oberheim, Cameryn Menacher and Taylor Wunderlich each had base hits for the Lady Sages.

Wunderlich took the loss in relief of starter Taylor.

The Lady Sages drop to 1-4 on the season while Meridian improves to 2-1 overall.
