Former NFL Star Hernandez Found Dead in Prison Cell

Aaron Hernandez has passed at the age of 27 after committing what law enforcement says is an apparent suicide in his cell.

Hernandez was found by corrections officers hanging in his cell at around 3:05 a.m. EST after utilizing bed sheets attached to his cell window, according to Christopher M. Fallon, of the Massachusetts Department of Correction.
He also tried to block the door from inside his cell using various items.

Authorities say that attempts were made to revive Hernandez as he was taken to UMASS Leominster, but was pronounced dead shortly after at 4:07 a.m. EST on Wednesday morning.

Just last week Hernandez was found not guilty for the death of two men in a 2012 double-murder case that took place in Boston's South End, but he was serving a life sentence for the 2013 murder of Odin Lloyd.

Hernandez was a New England native growing up in Bristol, Connecticut and was a member of the New England Patriots from 2010 to 2012 after the team selected him in the fourth round of the 2010 NFL Draft out of Florida.

The Massachusetts State Police are currently investigating his suicide.
