Bears, Packers Win in Preseason

>>Packers Down Washington in Second Preseason Tune Up

The Washington Redskins didn't collect a first down until the opening quarter's final play and Kirk Cousins only produced a TD while facing defensive reserves on drive No. 6, while Aaron Rodgers made a surprise start for Green Bay and looked to be in midseason form in the Packers' 21-17 exhibition victory.

Washington's initial three drives resulted in an embarrassing total of 13 yards. Cousins was 2 for 6 for 9 yards in that span; running back Rob Kelley gained 4 yards on three carries behind a starting offensive line providing little push.

Rodgers, meanwhile, went 6 of 8 for 37 yards and a TD pass to new tight end Martellus Bennett — plus one of his trademark quick snaps to draw a penalty — on his lone drive.

Rodgers also completed passes to Jordy Nelson, Randall Cobb and Davante Adams.

RB Aaron Jones , taken in the fifth round from UTEP, caught a 5-yard TD pass from backup QB Todd Hundley in the second quarter.

QB Taysom Hill, undrafted out of BYU, led a seven-play, 65-yard TD drive in the fourth quarter that included his 23-yard scoring scamper for the winning points. He's competing with Joe Callahan for the third QB spot.

>>Bears Beat Cardinals in Second Preseason Game

The Chicago Bears' came out of their second preseason game with a 24-23 victory over the Arizona Cardinals on Saturday night.

Mike Glennon, just 2 for 8 for 20 yards last week in Chicago's preseason opener, played the entire first half in Arizona, completing 13 of 18 passes for 89 yards.

Glennon was picked off by Tyrann Mathieu as the Bears were threatening to score but bounced back to throw his first touchdown pass of the preseason.

Mitchell Trubisky, the Bears' rookie who had an outstanding debut in the preseason opener, played most of the second half. He wasn't quite as spectacular this time but a solid 6 for 8 for 60 yards and a score. He was sacked once and had a would-be interception dropped.

The biggest play of the night came from Deonte Thompson, who returned a missed Arizona field goal 109 yards for a touchdown as the first half ended.

Carson Palmer was 9 for 14 for 67 yards and a touchdown for the Cardinals.

With Jordan Howard and Jeremy Langford out with injuries, rookie Tarik Cohen started at running back for Chicago and was impressive. The 5-foot-6, 181-pound fourth-round pick out of North Carolina A&T carried 11 times for 77 yards.

Robert Aguayo, a 2016 second-round draft pick released by Tampa Bay earlier in the week, missed a 49-yarder wide right in his first field goal try for the Bears.

>>Bears Add Free Agent LB Shephard

The Chicago Bears have signed veteran free-agent linebacker Kelvin Sheppard.

The team announced the signing Friday and also waived rookie linebacker Hendrick Ekpe.

Sheppard is entering his seventh season in the NFL. He had 50 tackles and made 11 starts for the New York Giants in 2016, a year after he had 105 tackles as a starter for Miami.

Ekpe was an undrafted rookie free agent from Minnesota.
