It's a new era for Maroons football as the squad welcomed first year head coach Nick Blackburn earlier this year.
The Maroons, off a 4-5 season in 2016, visit Villa Grove to open the year.

The Monticello Sages open the 2017 football season tonight at Olympia.
The Sages finished last year a win short of a state title appearance after a loss to eventual state champ IC Catholic.
With the Okaw Valley Conference no more, Monticello opens conference action in the Illini Prairie.
The Illini prairie keeps former-Okaw Valley schools Champaign St. Thomas More, Unity, St. Joseph-Ogden and Rantoul while merging former Corn Belt conference members Bloominton Central Catholic, Illinois Valley Central, Pontiac, Prairie Central and Olympia.
